            CITATION:

                            For exceptional meritorious achievement and heroic service while participating in combat
            operations against enemy forces in the Republic of Vietnam from 14 June to 12 August 1969. Rushed
            into combat to block and impending major enemy offensive against the provincial capital city of Tay Ninh,
            Task Element 194.9.5.1 extended the Operation Giant Slingshot tactical area of operations to the farthest
            reaches of the Vam Co Dong River along the Cambodian border, an area heretofore regarded as an enemy
            stronghold. In spite of the concentrated efforts of the enemy to retain control of their vital avenues of
            approach to Tay Ninh City, the officers and men of Task Force Element 194.9.5.1 succeeded in severing
            the enemy's supply lines and, after thirty-nine fire fights, deterred the enemy from launching a full-scale
            attack. The courage, devotion to duty, and exemplary professionalism displayed by the officers and men
            of Task Element 194.9.5.1 throughout this period were in keeping with the highest traditions of the
            United States Naval Service.
